New Additons on Catchflix

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

Bunch of movies added on Catchflix for you to enjoy…

Some notable ones in English:

Husbands and Wives

Husbands And Wives
Director: Woddy Allen
Woody Allen’s critically acclaimed comedy finds two New York couples reexamining their marriages and discovering they want more. Allen stars with Mia Farrow as a long-married couple whose own relationship starts to crumble when their best friends (Sydney Pollack and Judy Davis) announce they’re separating. Smoldering resentments and unexpected jealousies soon rise to the surface, erupting in savage humor and hilariously unpredictable reunions.

La Bamba

La Bamba

Director: Luis Valdez

The plane crash that killed rocker Buddy Holly also took the life of Ritchie Valens (Lou Diamond Phillips), a 17-year-old Mexican-American who rocketed to fame with the hit “La Bamba.” The film paints a vivid portrait of Valens’ modest upbringing, his warm relationship with his hard-working mother (Rosanna DeSoto) and his rise to stardom. Los Lobos performs Valens’ music on the soundtrack.

Saving Private Ryan

Saving Private Ryan
Director: Steven Spielberg
As U.S. troops storm the beaches of Normandy, three brothers lie dead on the battlefield, with a fourth trapped behind enemy lines. Ranger captain Tom Hanks and seven men are tasked with penetrating German-held territory and bringing the boy home. Steven Spielberg and cinematographer Janusz Kaminski paint a harrowing picture of the price of war and heroism — one that netted them Oscars for Best Director and Best Cinematography, respectively.

Keeping the Faith

Keeping the Faith
Dirctor: Edward Norton

Despite differing faiths, the Rev. Brian Finn (Edward Norton) and Rabbi Jacob Schram (Ben Stiller) — who were boyhood pals — enjoy working together to spread “the word.” But when Anna Riley (Jenna Elfman) enters the picture, it creates a love triangle that threatens to destroy the men’s friendship as they jockey to win Anna’s hand in this divine comedy.

Some interesting Hindi ones:

Bemisal

Bemisal
Director: Hrishikesh Mukherjee
No movie captures the great Amitabh as an angry yet soulful young man better than Bemisaal. Although uniquely done for its time of release, when such blockbusters as Shakit, Khuddar, Mahaan, and Pukar hit the screen with quite a punch, Bemisaal is set to give the audience an intimate look at the very soul of Amitabh’s portrayed anger. Playing a double role as both the insane older brother and the younger pediatrician, Amitabh performs fabulously in this tale of loyalty, sacrifice, and vendetta. Some of the monologues, that establish the backdrop of his character, are so well performed that one realizes that bone-crackling punches and booming voices are not the only means to express a character’s inner rage. In fact, a much more emphatic appreciation is achieved through fine changes in tone and pace that enable dialogs alone to bring Amitabh’s inner turmoil to bear.

Masoom

Masoom
Director: Shekhar Kapur
Masoom was Shekhar Kapur’s first directorial venture. The critically acclaimed film starred Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Supriya Pathak and Saeed Jaffrey, as well as child actors Jugal Hansraj and Urmila Matondkar. The screenplay and dialogues were written by Gulzar and the music was contributed by R.D. Burman. The plot was broadly based on Man, Woman and Child written by Erich Segal.

Dor

Dor
Director: Nagesh Kukunoor
Nagesh Kukunoor’s latest movie ‘Dor’ is a compelling watch. It is a moving tale of two women – one who undertakes a long journey to save her love, and another who dares to break the shackles of tradition and choose life as her heart wants it. Like Kukunoor’s previous movie ‘Iqbal’, ‘Dor’ too is a film on the empowerment of the weak and the oppressed. It is a beautiful tale of love, loss, friendship, and courage to live anew. The film is raw and realistic in essence. And this is the reason why its story is so believable and deeply touching.

Ittefaq

Ittefaq
Director: Yash Chopra
A lonely night. A comfortable house. a beautiful girl alone. Rekha (Nanda) switches on the ratio and hears that a lunatic murderer has escaped from the mental asylum. The door bursts open and Dilip Roy (Rajesh Khanna) enters. That is when a chance encounter turns a quiet night in to a nightmare – Rekha is reduced to a prisoner in her own house. Roy had no alternative, but to take refuge in the first house that came his way, since he is on the run from the police. But these few hours in that house become a small world where a larger than life drama takes place from midnight to down. Ittefaq is a story of just one night, one man, one woman and one big coincidence.
